Jagdishpur in Bhojpur is closely associated with Kunwar Singh, a leader of the uprising of 1857. The district account identifies him with the local ruling family. The place is part of the history of resistance to East India Company rule. This account follows the documented nineteenth-century association rather than assigning an unsupported foundation date to surviving structures.
