Puran Devi Temple is a shrine in the Purnia city area. The district’s account places it roughly five kilometres from the main city. The same account records a theory that Purnia took its name from the temple, alongside a different explanation involving Purna-Aranya. These are competing naming traditions, not a settled etymology.
