Valmikinagar lies beside the Gandak in West Champaran. The district account identifies it with the older name Bhainsalotan. The Gandak barrage, canals and hydroelectric works form part of its river landscape. Forests and the Himalayan foothill setting connect the town with the wider Valmiki landscape.

Ministry of Culture · parliamentary reply 31 Jul 2023That table totals 70 sites for Bihar. A newer March 2026 reply reports 71 statewide, without a district crosswalk. We keep the dated district figures instead of labelling them current.
