Sher Shah Suri's tomb

A causeway crosses the water to the tomb. In this 2012 photograph, the approach, the central dome and the smaller domed pavilions can be read together. The setting is Sasaram, in Rohtas district.

In the record

The tomb is at Sasaram in Rohtas district.

Bihar Tourism dates it to the sixteenth century.

The mausoleum stands in an artificial lake and combines Indo-Islamic architectural features.

Before you go

This photograph uses CC BY-SA 3.0 rather than the 4.0 licence of several other selected images.

A separate 1858 engraving was investigated but is not recommended as straightforward documentary evidence because its printed caption says Bejapore while the Commons description identifies Sher Shah's tomb.
