At Chausa, the forces of Humayun and Sher Shah fought on 26 June 1539. The Buxar district account records Sher Shah as the victor. The engagement belongs to the struggle for control of northern India in the sixteenth century. The place-name identifies that historical association, not a surveyed boundary of the battlefield.
